Big prints require big images. As a guide, images that are over 8mp or 3200px x 2400px should be fine for most print sizes. That’s a photo taken on an iPhone 5 or later or late model Android.
If your photo resolution is too low for a particular print size, don’t panic - we’ll let you know so you can provide us with another.
Note: Facebook images have been resized to a small size and can’t be used. No problem though - just give us the image you uploaded originally to Facebook!
If you’re not sure if your photo is a high enough resolution you can easily find out below.
On a Mac...
Step 1: "Right-click" on your photo and choose” Get Info”.
Step 2: Directly under “More Info” beside “Dimensions” you will see the pixel width and height.
On a PC...
Step 1: "Right-click" on the image so that a menu block appears. Scroll down to "Open with" and then select "Paint".
Step 2: Once open in Paint, click on the "File" menu bar, then select "Properties. The window below will open and show you the image's pixel dimension.
We can do a lot to brighten and, in some cases, darken an image to suit a design. But it is best not to take a photo in direct sunlight on a sunny day as too much light can bounce off someone’s head, face or clothing and the image can become “blown out”. This makes it harder to make your image blend into the design. On the flip-side, photographs that are too dark lose a lot of detail and may not work in a design that is bright and colourful. Try to take your photograph in natural light during the day.

Try to avoid clothing that has logos or writing on them. Sometimes we need to flip an image to suit the design and “PAG” doesn’t make much sense.
We want you to look like you belong in the scene and clothing helps that illusion. For example; if the design you choose is of your child flying an eagle high in the sky then dress them in warm clothing. It will help make it seem like they are really up there in the clouds.
A great facial expression can make an image. If you’re taking a photo for a specific design such flying an eagle, imagine what it would be like to soar through the clouds on the back of a great bird and try pulling a face/pose that suits the scene. Eg; pretend to look down and look surprised, thrilled or even scared.

If your chosen design calls for an photo where we just need their face, such as Astrofun, then it doesn’t matter if they are cropped at the neck. But if the design calls for us to see more of the body please make sure none of it is cropped or being blocked by an object or another person.
* Avoid your subject standing in grass when photographing as the grass hides their feet and is hard to remove!
We want as much information as possible so your design is sharp and clear so don't be too far away from the person you are photographing. If the design just requires a person's face take the photo close-up so you capture more detail.
To keep the file size down and speed up the time it takes to upload a photo the ideal photos are in the jpeg format and have an RGB (red, green, blue) colour profile. Most point-and-shoot cameras take photos in this format. If you have photo editing software such as Photoshop and can change your image to an RGB jpeg this may save you time uploading your image.
If you are not sure simply upload what you have and we can have a look at it at our end.

Your portrait image should be as clear as the rest of the design. So the best photos to supply us with will have your figure completely in focus. Any blurring will make it impossible to extract the figure from the background and place into your Epic design.
Photos should not be supplied to us with an effect, filter or colour treatment already applied to it as they won't blend with our designs. Avoid using apps such as Instagram on them before sending them to us. The more natural/original the photo is, the better.
